56th Annual Rodeo


Oct. 5 & 6 | Uvalde, TX

The 56th Annual Southwest Texas Junior College Rodeo set for Friday and Saturday, October 5 & 6. Nightly performances at the Uvalde County Fairplex Arena starting at 7: 30 p.m.

Two full nights of jam-packed National Intercollegiate Rodeo action including team roping, barrel racing, saddle bronc riding, tie-down roping, bullriding, and entertainment by rodeo clown Leon Coffee as well as Amanda Payne.

The 2018 SWTJC Rodeo is sponsored by Hondo National Bank, Continental Tire, 3S Services, Uvalde County Fairplex, Oasis Outback, Texas Farm Store, First State Bank of Uvalde and Briscoe Ranch.

$8.00 advance tickets are available at Oasis Outback, Texas Farm Store, Hondo National Bank, Country Gardens and Seed, Rockin R, First State Bank and SWTJ. $10.00 at the gate and kids 12 and under are free.

Rodeo action

Over 350 collegiate athletes, representing some 15 colleges and universities in the Southern Region are expected to compete in Uvalde.

Shaye Lynn Jesse, Rookie of the Year Award recipient at the College National Finals Rodeo this past summer along with a new cast of recruits will lead the rodeo team into competition.

This year’s event will also see a significant change. After a 38-year stretch at SWTJC, Roy Angermiller will be retiring as head rodeo coach.
